Summer Activities Opportunities from UMC Action Minitries
Smart Lunch, Smart Kid
Looking for a meaningful way to serve this summer? In Georgia, more than 800,000 children
receive free or reduced-price lunches at school during the school year. In the summer, this important
meal disappears, leaving parents scrambling and kids hungry. You can help relieve hunger
and provide hope and encouragement to kids in your community when you get involved with Action
Ministries’ Smart Lunch, Smart Kid program. Smart Lunch, Smart Kid provides sack lunches
to thousands of North Georgia children every week in the summer, and they need volunteers to
help by donating, assembling and delivering lunches to kids. They also provide educational and
enrichment opportunities, such as distributing books. This is a great opportunity for kids to serve
other kids! Learn more about Smart Lunch, Smart Kid and sign up to volunteer online by visiting

Feed the Hungry Food Boxes
Looking for a simple way to serve your neighbors in need? Action Ministries, through its Feed
the Hungry Food Box program, offers churches the opportunity to obtain boxes of food worth $25-
$30 – enough to feed a family of four for several days – for a $5 per box donation. Boxes are lightweight,
easy to store, and large enough to fit additional food items, such as perishable bread,
meat or produce, allowing churches to customize the boxes to suit the needs of the families they
are serving. In addition, Feed the Hungry needs volunteers to pack boxes at their Atlanta warehouse,
which can provide church staff, Sunday School classes, life and youth groups with a fantastic
team-buiIding opportunity to serve others. In just two hours of service, 15 of your members
can pack approximately 200 boxes! All ages are welcome.

challenges of poverty by focusing on hunger relief, housing and education. Don your best cape,
mask and racing shoes, and become an action hero for your neighbors in need! Prizes are awarded
for best adult, child and pet costume. Companies and church staff also can get involved by taking
